by JAMES K. The Latin Quarter was our favorite spot to visit. We spent the day walking around looking in shops and stopping for the occasional baguette and coffee. We also enjoyed visiting the Musee d'Orsay. Aside from the world-class art, the space itself (a converted train station) provides a beautiful way to spend the afternoon. Our best meal was at the Polidor Restaurant in the Latin Quarter. The atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. The interior looks authentically antique, the dinning community style, and the staff no-nonsense yet friendly. The food, of course, is excellent as well. We had the traditional menu, which consisted of three courses of French "peasant" food. Completely by luck, my girlfriend and I stumbled on the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore. This bookstore is historically important for its association with great writers like James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway but it also is just a great place to visit. The building has a lot of character, feeling more like the home of an eccentric rather than a bookstore. It even includes a reading room on the top floor of not-for-sale items 1. Our room in Montparnasse was exactly what we had hoped for. We had a wonderful host in a perfectly situated location
