Walking and discovering new places, and going in to lots of the parks such as Parc Butte Chamont and the Luxumbourge Gardens
Old churches and libraries.
We stayed near Le Nation so literally walked in and out nearly every day and found interesting shops, squares, cafe's. We wove in and out of side streets. We also found ourselves marching in the May Day parade one day- purely by accident but it was another view in to French life. Later that night we met people in a bar who had been there.
We stumbled upon open art studios, which were a real treat. This was when we walked in from Stalingrad along the canal into the centre.
Falafel places in the Marais perfect for vegetarians.
Schwartzer? Diner in the Marais also great for veggies.
Cafe Prosper in La Nation was brilliant! Loved getting free olive tapenade and crusty bread before the meal. Packed out with locals and fantastic service.
We also discovered that most bars and pubs offer Happy Hour early evening so we took advantage of the low prices and then had a smaller meak as we weren't so hungry.
It turned out quite funny that we thought we were having our first time away from kids in 25 years and inadvertently stayed with people whose children woke us up early every morning. We really did laugh. What else can you do?
Not funny but interesting was that I stumbled upon a designated children's library and archive and as a British Children's Librarian I went in to see what it was like and ask questions. They were so welcoming! Not only did I get a full tour and get introduced to everyone, I got to hold the oldest children's book in their collection- from 1316!
I've been to Paris a number of times, but I can honestly say that during this trip, we did not meet a single person who was anything but 100% nice and helpful. Is that the magic of Paris in the Springtime? We also found the Metro so much better and easier than the London Underground. The stations are cleaner, trains faster and waiting times not so long. We zipped all over Paris and kept finding that were we in locations that we had seen on films such as Le Hain.
