Tour Montparnasse in Paris - Reviews - Paris |
by JOHN T. The first-floor apartment is on a fairly busy street near a lively pedestrian strip with shops and outdoor markets, but during the winter at least it was not loud at night. Several good restaurants and bars, including one Yves recommended that served local dishes. Walking distance to catacombs, Montparnasse Cemetery and the Tour Montparnasse. Enjoyed seeing different part of Paris and doing some new things. Tour Montparnasse: Had not been to top of tower in many years was impressed by the view, photographic displays and computerized equipment that pointed out landmarks. Also had good time at Christmas market along Champs-Elysees. Au Vin des Rues at 21 Rue Boulard, around corner from Rue Daguerre, menu written on blackboard and in no rush to open or serve customers, but we liked our meal (duck breast) and others must have also because restaurant filled up. Ate one dinner at Cafe Daguerre when we could not get in anywhere else, and though the food was not the greatest, it was packed with a lively crowd that kept us entertained. Happy Hour went until past 8 p.m. and the wine was cheap. We liked it so much that we went back a second night for wine and dessert after finishing dinner at a nearby restaurant. We saw part of Paris we were not familiar with, but it was so close to a Metro stop we had easy access to the entire city. |
