1. The River Seine - the boat cruise of the River Seine in Paris, day or night. A great value for an hour of scenic eye-candy complete with personal audio guide.
2. Notre Dame - Just a gorgeous place of worship. We were lucky enough to be present during a service and we heard some beautiful choral music.
3. Place De Vosges - A charming 17th century square with lots of artshops. Nearby on Blvd. Beaumarchais is the Atelier d'Autrefois, probably the most fascinating shop I've ever been in!
Since we were not there very long we didn't get an opportunity to eat out as much as we would have liked. However, we never had a bad meal at any of the cafes, even at the very touristy ones. The food was always fresh and the wine was usually good. The little supermarkets were expensive and not very interesting; the numerous outdoor markets are much more fun.
My sister stepped out for a late night smoke in her pajamas and flip-flops when a kindly old lady thought she was down on her luck and offered her some coins. My sister reacted with shock, refusing the money and both were very embarrassed. Really it was so kind to offer money when it wasn't even asked for.
1. Great hosts: Gerard and his wife were very helpful and also showed us the local points of interests.
2. The Location is perfect for those unfamiliar to the city. The Metro is just steps away and very easy to navigate.
3. The room was very clean and convenient. We had an ensuite bathroom, and a cute little kitchenette we used for breakfasts.
