Louvre - a great building in itself and it was interesting to look around Napoleon's appartments and interesting to see that it was used as a residence before it became a museum.
Versailles - the scale and grandeur of the chateau and gardens was breath-taking. It's sheer opulence showed the obsession to detail that the Kings of France had wanted and got from the team who helped create Versailles.
Musee D'Orsay - an eclectic collection of art in Paris Loved seeing Renoir, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec paintings. The Art Nouveau furniture was also a highlight to see, as it is rare to see beds, wardrobes etc. designed as works of art in themselves.
Georges Pompidou Centre - lovely to sit in main square and people watch and the building is amazing to see!
The restaurant in Musee D'Orsay - was in a really beautiful room with chandeliers and frescoes - we felt privileged!! The food was very fresh and reasonably priced.
Georges Pompidou Centre - we had a mojito near Stravinksy fountain and also had an Italiian 3 course set meal for 2O Euros that was very good.
We saw a cabaret/burlesque show called La Clique that was very funny to watch.
Our French is not very good and lots of times when we couldn't find a particular place we were going to visit we had to rely on body language to convey what we were trying to say. The French people that we met were very friendly and willing to help us!
1. Transport links in Paris are very good - Metro, Rail and Bus Services all took us to main tourist sites within minutes.
2. Lively, fashionable district with good restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets. They are also reasonably priced and not as expensive as some areas of Paris. Wine at the bars was a very good price! ;-)
3. Relaxing area as not as busy as some tourist areas in Paris.
