I visited the Arc de triomph, Eifel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre Dame Cathedral. It was my first time in Paris. I can see why the city is such a favorite for so many. I was amazed by so many bridges in Paris and the well constructed walking/cycling paths on both sides of the river so that one can walk under all those bridges.
I also visited Oradeur sur Glane, a village completely destroyed and all men, women, and children killed by the Nazis during the second world war. it was a moving experience to look at the site.
The best meal I had was in a restaurant on one of the side streets near the Notre Dame Cathedral. It was not a large restaurant, but to be able to enjoy beef burgundy at a table on the side-walk was a real memorable experience. There were many other restaurants on this street offering various complete dinners which include an entree, the main plate, drink, and dessert.
I wanted to try some French cuisine. So in one restaurant near the Eiffel Tower district, I decided to try an item on the menu that sounded exotic: Le Boeuf Tartare. When the dish came, it was raw Hamburger! I told the waiter I did not know what it was when I ordered it, and asked if he would take it back to the kitchen and have it cooked. The waiter probably found that amusing but he took it back without any complaint. In a short moment he brought back to me a plate of cooked hamburger steak. I was not charged extra for all that.
The following is my list of reasons why Paris is a worthwhile city to visit:
1. The tourist area is very spacious. Even with a large crowd, one does not get the feeling of being cramped.
2. Nice walking paths along both river banks and under the many bridges.
3. Many inexpensive eating places with outdoor seating.
