Starbucks in Paris - Tempo Libero - Paris

by JUDI O.

We are an arty pair and therefore went to the Louvre, and a couple of other galleries advertised around the city, particularly worth a visit if you're into art is the Modern Art Museum and the Pompidou Centre has a Lucien Freud exhibition which is particularly worth a visit at the moment. Entrance to most of the art galleries is free if you're under 18 or between 18 and 26 and a European citizen, definetly worth a visit.

We tended to buy things from the shops because our French is so appalling that we found it difficult to communicate with staff in restaurants and we didn't want to be so ignorant to try and make them speak English. We did go to a few nice bars and cafes though, the little quirky ones around the city and particularly near the Pompidou centre, where there's a general arty, kooky vibe.

On the first day, we went in Starbucks in Paris with the theory that, after failing miserably to speak French in the individual cafes and ending up with a glass of milk rather than a milky coffee, the menu would be the same all over the world and therefore we'd be able to get exactly what we wanted. After watching me struggle with the basics of ordering inbetween the Starbucks terms, the girl poured our drinks into the cups, and asked, in a perfect American accent "Would you like whipped cream with that?".

The city is particularly easy to navigate through the Metro, we bought a map before hand though which had a road map and a metro guide which was amazing and had all the places of interest listed. It's really cheap to get around, and with basic French vocabulary easy to understand, although most people do speak English if you're really struggling!
