The Museum of Modern Art of Paris |
![]() Since 1961 modern art has had a home in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art located in the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo in the 16th arrondissement. Before talking about the museum’s permanent collection it’s worth mentioning the Palais de Tokyo, one of the major buildings constructed for universal exhibition of 1937. The Palais de Tokyo is one of the best examples of French grandeur. From the 8,000 sqm of the building completed on the eve of the Second World War it has grown to the 22,000 sqm of today after it was enlarged and renovated in 2012. On April 12 2012 the Palais de Tokio was reopened to the public and visiting the sight is surely one of the most rewarding experiences during a visit to Paris. The space it occupies is between the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées and was designed to be an area where visitors and art can meet. If you are staying at one of the Paris accommodations listed on BBparis.com, we recommend you visit the Museum of Modern Art that is located within this majestic exhibition complex and houses some of the most import artists of the 20th century such as Modigliani, Chagall, and Picasso.
