The Great Mosque of Paris in the heart of the Latin Quarter

One of the most beautiful and colorful neighborhoods of Paris where people of all types can be found is the Latin Quarter. There’s no better location for building a Great Mosque, inaugurated in 1926 by president Doumergue in honor of the battle of Verdun where 50,000 Muslims were killed, the area remains a hotbed of cultural and religious exchange in the center of Paris.

The Great Mosque resembles the mosque in Fes and has a Moorish-Hispanic style with a four-sided minaret that rises 30 meters into the Paris skyline. All the decorations, both internal and external, were created by a group of North African craftsmen who used a variety of materials, especially mosaics which came directly from their countries of origin.
