What better occasion to take advantage of Spring and visit Paris than the Easter 2011 weekend? Considering the rising temperatures it might be a good idea to explore the parks and gardens of Paris.
The Luxembourg Gardens are located in the heart of the city in the Latin Quarter. In this giant green space you can enjoy a splendid little lake, fountains, long shaded paths with plenty of flowers and a historic palace. The gardens are filled with sculptures and monuments of which one of the most famous is the Medici fountain in honor of the family who commissioned the park.
For the Easter Weekend in Paris consider also a visit to the Tuileries gardens, one of the oldest in Paris. They extend from Place de la Concorde all the way to the entrance of the Louvre museum and are bordered by the Seine on one side and Rue de Rivoli on the other. These gardens were also created thanks to Catherine of Medici and include long paths with fountains, statues and a variety of flowers. A walk here provides a splendid introduction to the beauty and history of Paris.
The Villette park is the biggest in Paris, it is truly a green oasis of the city and extends over 55 hectares. Many theme gardens enrich the park and numerous red pavilions, called 'follies', provide a unique architectural experience. The park includes the Ourcq canal and it's possible to stroll above the water thanks to two pedestrian walkways above the river. During the entire year many events, spectacles, concerts, outdoor films and entertainment for all ages are organized here. For Easter 2011 you will find a special event to celebrate the occasion.
The Park Monceau is especially appropriate for romantics and is one of the most stylish parks of the city. There are many paths that lead to green and flowered areas. There are also several small lakes including the famous 'Naumachie' which has a semicircular colonnade that is covered in vegetation which renders it particularly fascinating.
