Andrée Putnam in an exhibition at the Paris Town Hall |
Lovers of design that will be in Paris in the month of December have the possibility to partake in an exhibition dedicated to Andrée Putnam, the celebrated first lady of design famous all over the world.
From the 10th of November the exhibition in the Hôtel de Ville of Paris, created by the daughter of the designer Olivia Putnam, will welcome hundreds of visitors in style worthy of the designer. Along a black lacquered podium guests will follow the emblematic creations of Andrée Putnam. Among these are the Crescent Moon sofa present in the French National Stadium and many private residences; the chessboard bathroom of the Morgan hotel that has been reconstructed and placed next to the Pleyel piano of 2008. Three mega screens will also show the principle places the designer has reconstructed over her 30 year career.
Andrée Putnam was born in Paris 85 years ago and the city inspired her style and she became its ambassador to the world. She started her career as a journalist but her passion for contemporary art led her to collaborate with the design and style departments of French stores dealing with home accessories.
In 1997 she founded the company that bears her name. She is appreciated for her capacity to exalt both light and space and create simple objects with clean classical lines.
She contributed her fantasy and grace to make hotel interiors, museums, private dwellings, government offices and department stores all over the world more harmonic.
These include the great success of the Morgan Hotel in New York where a refined environment was created with simple materials that helped earn the designer her reputation for simplicity; the interior of the mythic Concorde, the VIP rooms of the French national stadium, the famous lacquered piano, accessories of the Prisunic store, and the desk of former minister Jack Lang. Many prestigious names have been linked with her; Karl Lagerfeld, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Pleyel, Christofle, and Guerlain.
We recommend reserving a stay in guest houses Paris in order to participate in this free exhibition that will continue until February 26th 2011 with the following opening hours:
Everyday from 10am until 7pm (closed Sunday and holidays)
