Tennis in Paris-Roland Garros Tournament |
Same as every year, for two weeks in May every tennis lover will be at the Roland Garros stadium to witness the famous French Open. This tournament became legend when it revealed some of the greatest names of tennis to the public. The city is preparing itself to host a very large number of fans and sportspersons, don’t miss out and book a 16th arrondissement B&B in the Trocadero, Roland Garros, Bois de Boulogne and Parc des Expositions areas for an ideal location to reach the tennis with ease. Known as the “international championship of France”, the first edition was held in 1891 and today it is considered to be the biggest clay court tournament in existence. Roland Garros is one of the four main Grand Slam tournaments together with the Wimbledon Open, Australian open and the US open. The huge list of programmed events and of important challenges: fifteen different challenges, amongst these fifteen senior, four junior and two Legend’s Trophy trials, make this the most media hit competition in the world. Named after the French Aviator Roland Garros who died ten years earlier during the First World War. Over the years, Roland Garros has been proclaimed the king of the clay courts illustrating this with legends of the game such as Björn Borg, who is considered the biggest tennis star of all time on clay court, Raffael Nadal title holder and 7 times winner, Michael Chang and Monica Seles, the youngest winners of the tournament (16 and 17 years of age), Andre Agassi, the first tennis player to win all four Grand Slam tournaments, and naturally the French Yannick Noah and Mary Pierce, the last French people to have lifted the cup (in 1983 and 2000). Considering the uncertainty of the French weather, umbrellas, ponchos and clothes that aren’t too light are recommended… layering up would be wise! |
